To celebrate History Week 2008, Fairfield City Library is presenting ten photographs from their online historical photographic collection to this online exhibition.
The photographs relate to this years NSW History Council’s theme “The Water’s Edge”. The photographs depict the history of the river, creeks and leisure grounds running through and around the area.
Fairfield City Council has ten creeks (over 80 kilometres) in the city flowing into both the Georges River and Hawkesbury Nepean Catchments. The impact of development over the last 50 years has resulted in severe degradation of the creeks. These creeks are the city’s most important natural environmental asset. As well as being important habitat sites for flora and fauna, the creeks are key components of the stormwater network, and also provide recreational opportunities for residents.
