While Blacktown City local government area is not on the coast, nor does it have any major rivers, water still plays a role in the history and lifestyle of the area.
Small creeks and waterways crisscrossed the area. In times of heavy rain, flooding would occur, to the delight of children and the chagrin of adults. Nowadays, major construction works have mitigated flooding, controlling the flow of water. Many of the man made lakes that can be found in new residential developments owe their beginnings to flood mitigation.
Water is essential to our being – we drink it, play in it, use it for agriculture and industry and, perhaps most of all, it refreshes us spiritually and physically.
